We are proud to offer Digital Thermal Imaging as an advanced tool to help evaluate your pet’s overall health and support our physical examination findings. Using our state-of-the-art Digatherm camera, we capture highly sensitive infrared images that detect temperature differences as small as one-thousandth of a degree.
For new patients, annual wellness visits, or when additional information may be helpful, our team typically captures a standard series of six images, including the face, each side of the body, the chest, the hind end, and an overhead view of the back. Additional images of specific areas may also be taken when clinically indicated.
The images allow us to evaluate symmetry throughout the body and identify areas of increased or decreased heat. Areas that are warmer than expected may indicate inflammation, while cooler areas may suggest decreased circulation or neurological changes. Although thermal imaging does not provide a diagnosis on its own, it is a valuable tool that helps support the findings from your pet’s physical examination and can assist in developing the most appropriate treatment plan.
To obtain the most accurate images, our technicians will ask that you avoid touching your pet for approximately 5–10 minutes before imaging. This allows your pet’s body temperature to adjust to the indoor environment and prevents temporary temperature changes caused by handling or being outdoors. All images are taken by trained technicians using standardized positioning, distance, and focus to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Once the images have been collected, they are submitted for review by our medical team. Please allow 1–2 weeks for the completed report and interpretation. There is no need to delay treatment while waiting for the results. We are able to begin or continue therapies such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, laser therapy, herbal medicine, supplements, and other recommended treatments based on your pet’s examination and clinical findings. The thermal imaging report serves as an additional source of information to complement your pet’s physical exam and help guide ongoing care.
